Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire reception for KAVS nominees
On Wednesday 15th April 2026, Robert Voss CBE, CStJ, Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, hosted a reception for the Herts nominees for the Kings Award for Voluntary Service. The Harpenden Hopper Community Minibus Service is one of the 12 nominees for the County. Four volunteers from the Hopper service attended: Andy Buchanan, Chair of Harpenden Connect (the charity that runs the Harpenden Hopper), Peter Hart, Company Secretary, Trustee and volunteer driver, Judie Caunce, volunteer driver and rota coordinator, and David Morris, volunteer driver and recruitment and training coordinator. You can see a picture below with all four and the Lord Lieutenant with some of the Deputies present too. There were speeches and an address by Robert Voss, Lord Lieutenant, in which he thanked and praised the 12 nominated charities and in fact all the charities operating within Hertfordshire. Society as we know it would certainly fail without the army of volunteers make their tremendous contributions.
The event was held in the new conference centre building at Oaklands College, St Albans Campus. The delicious tea and refreshments were prepared by the catering students.
The Hopper Team have now an anxious wait until 14 November (the King’s birthday) to find out if they have been successful in achieving the Kings Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS).
